Legado Cantabria is a process of building the oral memory of the region through the life stories of people 70 years old or older. Each life tells a story worthy of being heard and contributes to enriching our intangible cultural heritage.

Cantabria Legacy in 2 minutes

Who are we?

Legado Cantabria is a constantly evolving project backed by the European Senior Citizens’ Trust Foundation (PEM) with the support of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport, as well as UNATE, the Permanent University. It also has the support of several municipal corporations in Cantabria and the La Caixa Foundation.

Who participates?

Elderly people of 70 years of age or older living in Cantabria who relate their life experience to make it available to current and future generations. Some are part of Legado through the writing (in different languages) of their autobiography; others work with the Legado team in the respectful recording of their testimonies.

What do we do with these stories?

Five fundamental actions: we provide the person who has handed over his or her Legacy and his or her relatives with a complete copy of the work; we deposit a copy in the Film Library of Cantabria for its protection and care; we make the complete categorized recordings available to researchers; we share on the web a reduced version of the life stories for their general dissemination, and wegenerate summary products and public events to highlight the intangible heritage of the elderly and recognize them for having generously handed it over.
